Photographer: James P. Malone, MD, Springfield, Ill. This photograph was taken in February 2003 while on safari in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya. The pride of lions is returning home after a night of hunting prey on the plains of the Great Rift Valley. Dr Malone was in Kenya for a medical missionary trip to Tenwek Hospital, a small missionary hospital serving a population of more than 300 000. While at Tenwek, he provided desperately needed otolaryngology services, including major head and neck surgery, to many patients.
