This is the second volume of the fourth edition of the well known German system of pediatrics. In looking through the book, one notes especially the numerous beautiful illustrations. To American readers, the number and the excellence of the colored plates and colored illustrations are amazing if he is not familiar with the German proficiency in this kind of publishing.
The text is lucid and particularly thorough. This volume deals mostly with contagious diseases. Each disease is discussed as an entity and in nearly every instance by one specially qualified to write a monograph on the subject. For instance, Schick is the author of the material on diphtheria and von Feer of the part on acrodynia. There is a chapter on tropical diseases by Dr. Wijckerheld Bisdon of Java, with a wealth of illustrations that are gratifying to those who have practically no knowledge of these.
