The author is general secretary of the Society of Medical Inspectors of the Schools of Paris and of the Department of the Seine and also served as general secretary of the Third International Congress of School Hygiene. He speaks with authority and enthusiasm of the problems pertinent to his chosen field, and any one with similar interests will find his book a source of valuable information and stimulation.

The book is divided into five parts. The first is devoted to the construction of the school and its equipment. The best methods of lighting, heating and ventilation are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the classroom, the position of the windows and the type of desk and seat. The latter should be adjustable to the physical requirements of the pupils. The second part is concerned with the physical, intellectual and moral development of the pupil and points out the great harm
