The book is essentially a textbook of clinical pathology, in which the author describes the pathologic changes and the principal clinical manifestations of "lesions of the oral cavity that are more or less commonly seen in everyday practice." The volume is generously supplied with illustrations, furnishing both gross and microscopic reproductions of most of the conditions described. To each chapter there is appended a list of references for the convenience of the reader whose interest carries him further than the relatively brief discussion of the text. The frequent reference to specific cases and the inclusion of case histories contribute to the interest and application of academic exposition.

The first chapter is particularly well constructed and gives a pertinent résumé of a modern concept of inflammation. Likewise in chapter 10 a brief description of the microscopic anatomy of the oral mucous membrane furnishes an appropriate foundation for consideration of pathologic changes
