This book gives an excellent account of a number of nonsurgical diseases of bone that have come to be better understood as a result of researches in endocrinology, biochemistry and nutrition during the past twenty years. Generalized osteitis fibrosa cystica (von Recklinghausen's disease) is discussed in relation to hyperparathyroidism, and a chapter is devoted to hyperplasia of the parathyroids secondary to other diseases of bone. Fetal, infantile and late rickets and osteomalacia are discussed in relation to avitaminosis D. There are also clinics on osteitis deformans (Paget's disease of the bone), lipid granulomatosis of bone, Gaucher's disease, and multiple myeloma. In the discussion of each condition, a few cases are reported in great detail with extensive biochemical, roentgenographic and histologic studies, with the result that a vivid picture is presented. The book is particularly helpful from the standpoint of diagnosis, but it also throws considerable light on the treatment of
