In the second edition of this work the increase in size by some hundred pages does not completely represent the amount of new material. The authors explain that further additions were made possible by omission of several tables which appeared in the first edition and by a more economical arrangement of type.
The book is for students, practitioners and medical officers. Its contents provide a fund of information not commonly assembled in one volume. The thirty-eight chapters treat not only the common and many of the less common acute infectious diseases but also their management and control in the hospital. Others relate to "Infection and Resistance," "Hypersensitiveness, Allergy, Anaphylaxis and Serum Reaction," and "The Transmission of Infectious Diseases." There are four chapters pertaining to various aspects of diagnosis and one concerning "Epidemiology and Control of Infectious Diseases." It is outstandingly apparent that the opinions expressed are supported by clinical experience
