This little book records the proceedings of a most interesting conference, participated in by physicians, lawyers and social workers, together with the health commissioner of a large city and an eminent embryologist. The causes of abortion, its prevention and treatment were discussed by the medical participants. Studies were presented indicating the prevalence of abortion in various strata of society and dealing with its social and economic aspects. An interesting portion of the report is the contribution of John H. Amen, district attorney of Kings County, New York, in which he explains the obstacles to effective legal control of abortion.
The question is most thoroughly gone into, particularly from the sociologic and economic standpoints, with a good deal of information concerning the views held concerning it by members of the bench and bar.
