The lectures on which this book is based were originally delivered by Sir Robert Hutchison at the London Hospital. The first edition was published in 1904. The revision in the present edition, the ninth, is entirely the work of Dr. Moncrieff. The lecture form has been retained, and the direct, friendly and intimate style affords delightful reading. The rich clinical experience and keen judgment of the authors give to the book a solidity often lacking in a work which is as short as this one and yet covers so wide a field. Almost all the diseases and abnormalities of infancy and childhood are considered, as are the feeding and care of the infant and the older child. Growth and development are also touched on, but are not considered to the same extent as in most modern textbooks. The emphasis throughout is on practical considerations and treatment.
