To the Editor The article entitled “The Use of Computed Tomography in Pediatrics and the Associated Radiation Exposure and Estimated Cancer Risk” by Miglioretti et al1 raises important issues. They report that the “increased use of CT [computed tomography] in pediatrics, combined with the wide variability in radiation doses, has resulted in many children receiving a high-dose examination.”1(p700) The results lend support to the importance of “child-sizing” the radiation dose during pediatric CT2,3 as promoted by the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging since 2007. We believe, based on the 27 400 downloads of the Image Gently CT protocols (www.imagegently.org), that this resource has been helpful in allowing facilities to use size-based protocols, as advocated by Miglioretti et al, who reinforce the importance of medical imaging professionals working with the manufacturing community to achieve this aim.
