Is there a primary care pediatrician on the plane? We have a situation here.” If this is what had come through on the overhead speakers, it may have ultimately made more sense. But as is the usual case, the plea was for a doctor or nurse on the airplane willing to help a fellow passenger.

I leap to press the call button, alerting the flight crew to my presence and willingness to assist. The same flight attendant who had forgotten my pretzels is now at my seat with the one-liner, “There's a teenaged girl in the back of the plane with abdominal pain who feels weak.”
