Teenagers in the UV Tanning Booth?Tax the Tan

Arch Pediatr Adolesc Med. 2003;157(9):845-846. doi:10.1001/archpedi.157.9.845

IN THIS issue of the ARCHIVES Demko et al1 use the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health survey data to substantiate the claim that millions of US teenagers patronize indoor tanning facilities.2 The study reports that more than 25% of US white female adolescents have used tanning booths 3 or more times. Factors associated with indoor tanning included female sex, residence in the Midwest or South, rural school location, increasing age, use of tobacco and alcohol, and increased personal spending money. The study harmoniously complements other recent work documenting the extensive purveyance of indoor tanning to US minors.35
