edited by W. Allen Walker, MD; John B. Watkins, MD; and Christopher Duggan, MD, MPH, 1102 pp, with illus, $189, ISBN 1-55009-026-7, Hamilton, Ontario, BC Decker Inc, 2003.
Drs Walker, Watkins, and Duggan have undertaken an ambitious project with the most recent edition of a time-honored nutritional textbook. The editors attempt to bring pediatricians trained in the 20th century into the 21st century of nutrition related to health and disease. The text succeeds on all levels. It is a valuable text for both students of nutrition and of pediatrics; it is a wonderful reference book for the office-based pediatrician, and it is a timely resource for the new challenges of nutritional excess rather than deficiency.
