Larval academic and voracious bookworm, I grew up reading anything I could get my hands on. In fact, family legend records my first sentence as “Read a book, Daddy!” Now, a grown-up pediatric resident, I’m sure I join many in our field in continuing to find children’s literature a magical escape for myself and, of course, a favorite activity to share with children. I was therefore eager to embrace a recent honor roll of children’s literature, 100 Best Books for Children, by children’s book reviewer and editor Anita Silvey.
