Dr. Bernstein's letter illustrates that there are hazards in condensing ideas to fit the microcomments we use to tell you something about our articles. Of the above letter, Dr. Lyons has this to say:

"Dr. Bernstein has taken issue with the editorial caption and the statement made in our first paragraph. He also quotes 4 reference articles as a basis of argument. The editorial caption was not prepared by us, but if the statement in our first paragraph is read with the connotation that 'Normal pediatric standards of reference have not yet been established with modern pulmonary function equipment in any large scale studies,' then both are justified.
