During the past few years there have been an increasing number of textbooks on child psychiatry. In addition to those written for the discipline, some of these are clearly designed to bridge the gap between major psychiatric writing and writing on psychological subjects for pediatricians and other practitioners.

The annual publication of The Psychoanalytic Study of the Child continues as a stable demonstration of the best in child psychiatric thinking. Over the years, this text has become well respected and is now depended upon to present trends and views of psychoanalytic thought. All practitioners having to do with children would do well to be aware of this series of volumes and of the studies reported therein.

In Volume 14, the issue for 1959, the general level of papers continues to be high. Pediatricians will be especially interested in an article by Grete L. Bibring describing the studies of the Beth
