It is a great pleasure for me to be here and to greet you on behalf of the University of Colorado. It is an unexpected dividend for me, arising from the happy coincidence of my being here at the National Institutes of Health to attend a meeting of one of the Surgeon General's Advisory Councils.
We are, of course, extremely pleased and proud as a University that our Department of Pediatrics, under Dr. Kempe's leadership, has been able to sponsor this conference on a most important disease. It is our conviction that this meeting will be a profitable and productive one, not only for all of you participating in it, but as well in terms of the effect it will have on leading to a better understanding of the problem of the eradication of measles.
