Announcement Regarding APS and SPR Abstracts

For a number of years this journal has published in October and November abstracts of papers submitted to the American Pediatric Society and the Society for Pediatric Research for their annual meetings the previous spring. The delay in publication results from the inclusion of discussions from the floor of those papers presented before the Society meetings. These discussions must be transcribed, edited, and set in type. We have been proud to present these abstracts since they represent a composite of the best investigative work in pediatrics, annually. By reading these abstracts, pediatricians can be informed of advances several months or a year or more before full-scale publications of the work are finally published.

Two disadvantages of this practice have become evident, however. In the first place, by devoting one-sixth of our space to abstracts, we must correspondingly limit the number of original articles we publish, or sometimes delay, by a
