Another year, another superbly prepared volume of this series. The 2 previous volumes have drawn this reviewer's accolades; their new sib is equally attractive. Once again upto-date literature surveys prepared by experts in their respective fields have drawn a wide range of topics. Of the 27 chapters, pediatricians might be particularly attracted, for example, to chronic pyelonephritis, the viral encephalitides, accident prevention (the details refer to adults; the principles spread into childhood), the biochemistry of hemolysis, insulin resistance in diabetes, or preventive psychiatry. Other chapters are equally pertinent.
One might speculate how many hours of meetings and conferences would have to be attended to accumulate comparable information and interrelationships. Even more startling would be the contrast in cost. Nevertheless, this source is not primarily recommended for the private physician's office; a hospital library copy will suffice to provide its unique reference source.
