The appearance of Pediatric Surgery in 1962 marks an era in the growth of the "most vigorously growing specialty in surgery." The editors' aim to publish a "complete textbook" in this field using American, Canadian, and English authors has resulted in an excellent, up-to-date source of information for the medical student as well as the practicing surgeon. The pediatrician will find this work helpful in understanding the attitudes and recommendations of his surgical conferees.
The distinguished editorial board and the list of contributors constitute an eminent group whose skill, knowledge, and enthusiasm will carry forward the specialty to greater accomplishment. The willingness of so many surgeons to cooperate and standardize their presentations so as to unify the outline and avoid as much repetition as possible is a tribute to the editors which cannot be overlooked.
