This superb issue of the British Medical Bulletin is composed of 15 papers on various aspects of adrenocortical structure and function. The authors are distinguished British and Canadian authorities in this field. Subject matter includes almost all aspects of adrenocortical metabolism including extra-adrenal effects of the hormones and factors controlling adrenal response. Both normal and disturbed adrenal function are considered, but emphasis is on the former and there is comparatively little information regarding clinical matters. All of these papers are excellent reviews with extensive bibliographies and very adequate coverage of the subjects. As such this journal will be of great value to people with a particular interest in adrenocortical function and will serve as a reference for specialized knowledge. On the other hand this material will be of little interest to the majority of clinicians, and it is not a good source for description of clinical disturbances of adrenal function
