This is a paperback edition of 6½ × 9½ in. It follows three previous editions; 1957, 1958, and 1959. The material is based on "reports which appeared in the medical literature during 1960-1962," and yet "important information has also been included from articles dating back to 1959,... 1958, and 1957." It is divided into 31 chapters based largely on the pharmacological action of the drugs considered; within chapters, drugs follow alphabetically using generic terminology not necessarily familiar to the reader in the United States, but synonyms and trade names are frequently used. The book appears to be better organized than previous editions.
Although the title refers to side effects of drugs it essentially deals with the toxic effects of drugs and idiosyncrasies.
While a critical evaluation of the reports would be desirable, the collected reports are probably the book's greatest virtue with a rather extensive bibliography which should permit the
