One may debate on the ultimate value of any atlas of disease and the attempt to document, by illustrations, the pathology of the central nervous system is indeed formidable. It can be agreed that the first requisite in any atlas is an adequate though concise text, but it cannot be said that the color atlas fulfills this to the degree found in other atlases, eg, the fascicles of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology.

Many of the colored illustrations are indeed beautiful, but I find many unsatisfactory. Since this very likely varies with the printing, there is no point in singling out any one as an example. There are certain criticisms, specifically related to captions or text, that are not to be dismissed as matters of opinion.
