To the Editor: Dr. Landsberger sent me a copy of his reply to my criticism of his article on Jacobi and I suppose you will print it. His statement that "Jacobi became the first professor of diseases of children in America" is not strictly correct. According to Borden Veeder's Profiles, p 14, "Jacobi's first official position was that of Professor of Infantile Pathology and Therapeutics at the New York Medical College," which closed during the Civil War and never revived, and was probably a rather second-rate affair. I gave 1870 as Jacobi's more important date, that of his appointment as Clinical Professor of Diseases of Children at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
