Abstract

In these times when techniques for treatment of the handicapped child are receiving wide attention in the lay press, the publication of Dr. Holt's volume on Assessment of Cerebral Palsy is especially appropriate. Carefully controlled clinical evaluation of individuals and comparable groups of patients before and during therapy is a clear necessity if the physician is ever to advise a family wisely on types of management for the affected child. The author opens a door to such studies.

The assessment described is that used in the Ryegate Cerebral Palsy Centre, Sheffield, England. The book contains a thorough subject index of its 15 chapters plus 103 figures which are mainly photographs of good quality illustrating technique. Although the text must be based on extensive personal experience by the author, the suggested methods are well supported by a total of 186 references.
