Periodically there is published the rare text which should be read by every practicing physician. Such is the above book which I believe should become the medicolegal bible of every physician, resident, and intern.

In recent years the "battered child syndrome" has received legislative and judicial attention culminating in the passage of new laws in many states and requiring that interns, residents, and physicians report to the authorities any evidence of maltreatment of children. Such legislation is of particular importance to all pediatricians who now by law must enter the medicolegal arena. These practitioners, graduate and undergraduate, must be cognizant of the legal requirements and morally must be aware of their humanitarian responsibilities. Complete familiarity with the textbook will prepare them for the potential engagements in the drama of the courtroom.
