This English book is aimed at the anesthesiologist with a moderate degree of experience in anesthetizing adults but little experience with the neonate. The book provides the reader, in the authors' words, "with a working knowledge of the apparatus and techniques used to anesthetize and resuscitate the newborn infant." The authors have a large clinical background of neonatal anesthesia and have drawn upon this to produce a useful practical text.

There is a chapter on the basic sciences pertinent to neonatal anesthesia. This is entitled "Anatomy, Physiology and Prematurity." The treatment in this chapter is too elementary for a text devoted entirely to such a limited field as the anesthesia of the newborn. This should have been greatly enlarged.

The chapter "Preparation for Major Surgery" discusses intravenous therapy, cutdown techniques, choice of incubator and temperature control in the neonate. There are many practical hints which ought to make for better
