This book covers far more than the standard history of pediatrics. In fact, nothing comparable to it exists in all of pediatric literature. The story of pediatrics is discussed from many viewpoints. Dr. Peiper in the fourth edition of his book covers in a masterly fashion the temporal history of pediatrics but he extends his interests widely into the history of our concern for the social aspects of pediatrics and especially to our emerging awareness for the welfare of children.
