This book is one of a series of postgraduate courses covering the major sections of pediatrics. It deals with much more than immediate emergencies met by practicing pediatricians and house officers. The small volume actually presents a concise and thorough analysis of symptoms, evaluation of important clinical and laboratory data, differential diagnoses including even the rarest diagnoses, and the therapeutic measures which should or should not be carried out on first approach to many acute pathologies. Tables and schematic classifications, most of them clear and helpful, facilitate quick diagnostic orientation and provide practical directions, including dosages, in conditions which call for immediate action.
The authors are clinicians, presently or formerly connected with the University of Berne, Switzerland. The short bibliographies at the end of each article refer to latest publications, a surprisingly large number being American.
