To the Editor.—We would like to point out one small error in the otherwise admirable review article by Salfelder and Schwarz (Amer J Dis Child 114:693 [Dec] 1967). Referring to our report of a pulmonary lesion histologically closely resembling if not identical with alveolar proteinosis in thymic alymphoplasia (Arch Dis Child 42:40, 1967), these authors state that the lesion "repeatedly was found to contain small numbers of P carinii as well." This was not the case. Pneumocystis carinii was not demonstrated in the protein aceous alveolar material in any one of the six cases in which the lesion was seen, although in one of them P carinii pneumonia was also present as a separate and distinct abnormality.
