Abstract

A 12-year-old boy, without previous evidence of recurrent infection, suffered chronic localized nonprogressive vaccinia during the course of infectious hepatitis. This clinical experience as well as laboratory studies suggest that hepatic dysfunction exerts a strong influence over cellular immunity. Vaccinia vaccination may be contraindicated in patients exposed to infectious hepatitis.
