Abstract

This book is presented as a reference work of current basic scientific information forming the basis of clinical obstetrics and gynecology. There are 81 international contributors who were selected on a basis of expertise in their respective areas of interest. The material is presented in the following major sections: (1) general, including chapters on the cell, reproductive tract tumors, chromosomal defects, cytogenetics, and semen; (2) female genital tract; (3) ovum and fetus; (4) blood and the cardiovascular system; (5) metabolism and nutrition; (6) the newborn; (7) lactation; (8) organ function; (9) the central nervous system; (10) endocrinology; (11) bacteriology; (12) drugs; and (13) special aspects, including chapters on genetics, geographic influences, computers, statistics, ultrasonics, electronics, irradiation, and isotopes. The volume is well illustrated and includes several color plates. The individual contributors are consistently lucid in their respective presentations.
