This comparatively little book of 228 pages is based upon a two-day symposium held in England. It is concerned primarily with the application of drugs in pediatrics with emphasis upon the ethical approach to clinical trial, transplacental transfer, drug metabolism, pharmacogenetics, and drug interaction. The first half of the book presents an excellent review of the use of drugs during pregnancy and early infancy. The second half deals with selected aspects of therapy, new developments, corticoids, immunosuppressive drugs, psychopharmacology and immunization. The book is not intended to cover in an inclusive way the broad field of applied pharmacology in pediatrics. However, those areas which are covered are briefly and clearly presented. The text will be quite useful as a review of literature for those doing research in the field. Some chapters include references which could help one select important publications which might otherwise be missed.
