The second volume in the series Major Problems in Clinical Pediatrics, published in 1965, was Rheumatic Fever by Milton Markowitz and Ann Kuttner. This was an excellent, very readable treatise on the diagnosis, management, and prevention of rheumatic fever. A second edition of this work has recently been published. In the intervening seven years Dr. Markowitz has moved from Baltimore and is now Professor and Head of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Dr. Ann Kuttner has unfortunately died and the reader will enjoy reading the warm tribute paid to her by Dr. Rebecca Lancefield. Dr. Leon Gordis from Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, who was a contributor to the earlier volume, is the new co-author.
