In an era of unprecedented institutional expansion and change in children's services, this contribution is most welcome. It places in perspective the critical interdependence between human and environmental resources as they relate to the child in the hospital. The recent establishment of a national coalition concerned with the particular problems and professional programs for children in the hospital further reflects more widespread awareness on the part of organizations of the issues involved. This book documents this concern and skillfully weaves a perceptive and developmentally oriented commentary in with a visual display of some of the humanizing hospital advances that have taken place in recent years. This slender, elegantly illustrated volume brings to life the programmatic aspects of architectural change and provides practical signposts for future development in the field.
