A 15-month-old infant observed at Duke University Medical Center for his final six months of life died with infectious complications of lymphopenic agammaglobulinemia. Parainfluenza virus type II was present in four specimens of respiratory secretions obtained during the terminal three months of life. Autopsy findings disclosed multinucleate giant cells in his lungs.
