This book is primarily the photographic presentation of a series of normal and abnormal reflexes. The pictures are accompanied by legends in telegraphic style that describe test positions, test stimulus, and "positive" and "negative" reaction. The philosophy of the presentation is based on classic segmental reflex concepts of Magnus and Sherrington. The very brief text gives the developmental age range in which most of these complex reflex motor patterns are normally elicited.

As it stands, the book is a useful description of a pragmatic methodology with a clinical developmental correlation. It also has the advantage of pointing to the neurophysiologic basis of the abnormalities of the motor system in the handicapped child. However, the implied correlation of reflex pattern with anatomical level of involvement is primarily based on studies in lower animals. Application of the anatomical implications in the human may, therefore, be inappropriate. Only limited clinical-pathologic correlation has been
