Second Annual Newborn Symposium.—On April 17 and 18, 1974, the Department of Medical Education at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, will host its Second Annual Newborn Symposium, "Major Dilemmas in Neonatal Pediatrics." Guest faculty will include Dr. Mildren Stahlman, Vanderbilt University; Dr. Samuel Fomon, University of Iowa; and Dr. L. Stanley James, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Problems to be discussed at this symposium will include dilemmas in delivery room resuscitation, the ethical and medical dilemmas posed by long-term ventilator care, the relationship between current infant feeding practices and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in later life, controversies in nutritional needs of low-birth-weight infants, and a critical reexamination of routine neonatal circumcision. There will be a special afternoon session on simple practical techniques in the care of the critically ill infant.
