This book offers a compendium of papers presented at the Third European Congress of Perinatal Medicine held in Lausanne, Switzerland in April 1972. It is in three main parts: (1) three introductory lectures offer overviews of perinatology from differing perspectives; (2) roundtables in which a number of original papers are presented on each of four major topics, perinatal pharmacology, cesareian section deliveries, prognosis of the high-risk newborn, and monitoring and intensive care in perinatal medicine; and (3) free communications, which number more than 200 brief abstracts of original research projects.
The symposium itself is most commendable in that it represents another bringing together and opening up of further dialogue among those concerned with the welfare of perinatal patients: pediatricians, obstetricians, clinical pharmacologists, and biomedical engineers. The vast majority of contributors are from Europe. Unfortunately, most of the presentations by members of one discipline will be of real interest only to
