This is a book for parents, but it should also be recommended reading for physicians just starting their pediatric training. In a modest 72 pages, Dr. North provides his reader with a full larder of practical advice on every aspect of infant care. In addition, though, he takes plenty of time to introduce some important basic concepts involved in raising children. In the same clear, informal, very readable style, he tells the mother how to select nightgowns for the baby, then later discusses the philosophies involved in discipline.

This manual is the latest edition of a book that was first published in 1914, and which has wide circulation. It has been rewritten for the sixth time and has emerged in much different form from its predecessors.
