This is the sixth volume in an annual series devoted to articles on child psychiatry and child development. This year's edition contains a total of 43 articles divided into the following sections: infancy studies, developmental issues, parent-child separation, language and learning, racial identification, classification and diagnosis, clinical studies, childhood psychoses, drug studies, pediatrics and mental health, adult outcome of childhood disorder, and effects of institutionalization.

Each is preceded by a brief introduction from Drs Chess and Thomas in order to "highlight the most notable trends represented by the articles selected." I found these introductions quite helpful in finding my way to a particular article, point of view, or reported research.

The volume is large (over 700 pages); however, the articles are well selected, important, and generally useful to anyone interested in child development. I find the series better each year; the total collection now stands as a representative and
