Abstract

This is a remarkable book that is full of extremes. It is big, 689 pages, most expensive, very complete, and almost a monograph in some areas; hardly touching other areas in pediatric gastroenterology. The editors and the authors are to be commended for a volume that is a superb reference textbook for some of the gastrointestinal illnesses of children. Any criticisms must be viewed in the light of a fondness for the tome and this reviewer's pleasurable anticipation of many moments with this excellent book. It is particularly helpful concerning measurement techniques of gastrointestinal absorption and the physiology of the gastrointestinal tract of children. That may well be its most significant thrust—a physiological approach to the study of the gastrointestinal tract. The bibliography is comprehensive in each area.
