Bell and McCormick have produced a volume on neurologic infections in children that is even more comprehensive than their first edition of 1975. The book has been expanded by 150 pages. Like the first, this edition includes four sections, one each on bacterial and viral infections, one on miscellaneous infections, including fungal, parasitic, spirochetal, and rickettsial diseases, and one on neurologic conditions related to inflammatory or infectious disorders. The chapter on therapy with antibiotics has been updated and expanded. There are new chapters on Mycoplasma infections and the nervous system, Echinococcus infections, leprosy, and shunt infections.

The book is well organized, extremely readable, and includes numerous references. The authors present details of the historic perspective, clinical aspects, differential diagnosis, pathogenesis, treatment, and complications of the many entities discussed. Helpful illustrations, including many demonstrative computed tomographic scans, are included. The material on CSF findings and herpesvirus infections are particularly useful.
