Abstract

Healthy Babies, Happy Kids is a generally sound, interesting, and well-written book for the lay reader, and it provides a thorough body of information regarding infant and child nutrition.

The author, Dr Stanley A. Cohen, is a pediatric gastroenterologist and nutritionist whose postdoctoral training was at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Harvard Medical School. He now is in practice in Atlanta, where he is director of pediatric nutrition, gastroenterology, and research at the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Dr Cohen notes that his wife and three children instruct him daily on "the practical applications of infant and child nutrition."

The book's approach to the topic of nutrition is relevant for the United States, given our nutritional problems of excesses and unusual practices. The author simplifies and succinctly presents, through clever storytelling, information regarding the complexities of nutritional practices and life-styles.
