Most pediatricians are familiar with the concept of the Year Book of Pediatrics. The editors select the key articles of the year and either review the articles themselves or solicit outside expert review. Articles for review are selected from several American, European, South African, and Australian medical and pediatric journals. An abstract of the article is given, and commentary follows. Articles with discrepant viewpoints are presented together. General pediatric, neonatal, and subspecialty pediatric topics are grouped in several chapters.

The book serves as an update for the practicing and academic pediatrician, as a source for the resident and student, and as entertainment when many of the comments are read. The editors do a generally good job of treading the fine line between humor and flippancy when commentary is made.

Considering the price ($35) of this book, it is well worth the investment for the interested reader.
