Having on my shelf several volumes of the Little Brown & Co Spiral Manual Series I, I was interested to see this one. Looking it over, my first reaction was to realize that it is not a primarily pediatric text. Rather, it covers adult and pediatric aspects, drawing no age restrictions. The format is fairly conventional, covering the usual subjects as asthma, allergic rhinitis, eczema, and urticaria. But, there are other very useful sections such as otitis media and allergies, breast-feeding and allergic disease, sinusitis, and gastroesophageal reflux and asthma. All sections are short, to the point, clinical in scope, and are discussions rather than simply instructions on management. Each short chapter concludes with nicely annotated references, which are for the most part recent.
Two aspects of this little volume set it apart in my mind. First, it is in many ways critical of the state of the art in
