Bill joined us last year and agreed to head our Sports Medicine Department when Nate Smith left. He received his medical education at Worcester (Mass) Hahnemann Hospital; interned at St Vincent Hospital, Worcester; and worked in the Hepatitis Activities Unit at the Centers for Disease Control, Atlanta. He then completed his residency and fellowship in cardiology at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital and Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, Cleveland. He joined the faculty of the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, in 1969, and rose to the rank of chief of the Section of Pediatric Cardiology in 1972 and the rank of professor in 1976. He is currently the Charbonnier Professor of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Georgia. Bill has multiple honors, national activities, and prestigious memberships.
