Wayne Katon, MD, died on March 1, 2015. He served on the Archives of General Psychiatry and then JAMA Psychiatry editorial board for many years, contributing Original Investigations,1 Viewpoints, and peer reviews. In 1995, he established collaborative care as a new treatment approach in psychiatry with the JAMA publication “Collaborative Management to Achieve Treatment Guidelines: Impact on Depression in Primary Care.”2 His superb teaching, creative research, and passionate patient care influenced several generations of students, residents, and faculty at the University of Washington (which he joined as a resident in 1976) and beyond.
