An edited book composed of 50 articles, a prologue, and summary, cannot be reviewed but only announced. Sections are labeled as follows: biochemistry, physiology and pharmacology, methodology, clinical considerations, experiments on animals of potential application to human subjects, objective assessment of normal human behavior, techniques for assessing autonomic, motivational and pathological states, experimental use of observational techniques, controlled subjective measures. The chapter bibliographies are for the most part adequate although favoring the authors' own papers. There is a fine name-and subject-index.

This is an excellent reference book and valuable as a statement of the current status of psychopharmacology.
