Dr. Berne has written a book which, unlike so many recent ones in the rapidly growing field of group psychology, is not simply a repetition of the scheme and outline of previous authors but a new and creative, individual approach. With a unique sense of humor and a wide range of knowledge, Dr. Berne has brought to the student of group dynamics a refreshing and challenging, if not at times voluminous, mass of conceptualizations. His six basic diagrams for observational study of groups are: (1) location (2) authority (3) structure (4) dynamics (5) imago (6) transitional. Using these general headings he makes an analysis of ailing groups and makes recommendations for their therapy (Chapter 14).
