This paperback book contains 12 articles by 11 contemporary authors, who have all been associated with the existential approach to psychiatry. Most of the authors are practicing psychiatrists and psychotherapists. It is interesting to observe that passionate disagreements and heresies are already rampant in this young fresh movement, recalling the early years of Freud. For this reason it is not possible to draw any conclusions or to make any generalizations about existential thought from the work of any one author.
This book is of particular value because it includes almost the entire spectrum of viewpoints in this vaguely delimited area either through authorship or by allusion.
It includes brief articles that contain some of the fundamental formulations of existential Swiss psychiatry by Ludwig Binswanger and Medard Boss who were initially responsible for the application of the philosophy of Martin Heidegger to psychiatry. It is surprising to note
